Dr. Deb releases a Call for Chapters

Former design and fashion professor still educating future designers

(A Call for Chapters is Linked at the Bottom of This Release)

Dr. Deborah Christel’s passion for educating future fashion design students didn’t disappear when she stepped away from the world of higher education.

Even as she launched Kade & Vos, the size-inclusive female underwear company she co-owns, Dr. Deb kept educating our world’s up-and-coming designers in the back of her mind.

Those thoughts will soon be put to paper in "The Fashion Activists’ Reader: Transforming Fashion Education and Ending Body Oppression", a textbook, which will be the first to comprehensively examine pedagogical approaches used to disrupt thin-centric, racial, sexuality, gender binaries, and oppression in fashion education.

What to Know About Dr. Deb:

  • Dr. Deb cares deeply about uniting fashion educators who use inclusive practices in their classrooms.
  • Dr. Deb was one of only a handful of professors in America teaching plus-size fashion techniques, which she has carried over into her work at Kade & Vos.
  • Dr. Deb has used her voice on social media platforms such as Instagram, YouTube and Facebook to advocate for inclusive fashion standards.

  • The Fashion Activists’ Reader: Transforming Fashion Education and Ending Body Oppression will be co-edited by Ben Barry, PhD, The School of Fashion Chair, Associate Professor of Equity, Diversity & inclusion, and Founder & Director of the Centre of Fashion Diversity and Social Change at Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario.

The Fashion Activists’ Reader: Transforming Fashion Education and Ending Body Oppression will tentatively be released in 2020.

At Kade & Vos, we do not use the term "Plus Size". We feel that calling some sizes "Plus Size" means that these sizes and shapes are somehow different from other sizes. We simply offer clothing for the female form, or in the fashion industry, Women's*.

Still unsure about your size? Check out our sizing videos for a more detailed tutorial on measuring yourself.

*We understand that not all females identify as women, and not all women identify as female. We love, support and respect your choice to identify in ways that feel authentic to you.
